On May 7, the government in Bangladesh passed a new law titled ‘Usage of Information and Communication Technology in Court 2020’ in order to introduce video conferencing in court proceedings which got final approval from President and was published as a gazette notification on May 9. In my view, this new law can bring a permanent change in the judicial system of Bangladesh. The judicial system has always been practiced manually since many years in this country where all other professions have adopted digital methods in regular office activities. In this critical time of pandemic, Bangladesh has paved way toward new phase of judiciary which is essential to clear backlog of cases.
Courts in many other countries have turned paperless from many years with the arrival of technological devices. Therefore, those countries find it quite easy to cope up with the effect of Covid-19 in legal accounts. Campaigning on the part of practicing lawyers of High Court Division have been took place since many years for digitalization of court proceedings. Hence, it is finally made in the year 2020.
