The incidents happened on the city’s MI Road and at the district Collectorate Circle. Representatives of lawyers met district collector Jagroop Singh Yadav and handed over a memorandum to him urging the state government to implement the Advocate Protection Act in the state. “It is not for the first time that such an incident has happened. Frequent attacks on lawyers have made the lawyers’ community livid. We want protection and for that purpose, the government should implement the Advocate Protection Act,” said Gajraj Singh Rajawat, secretary, district advocate bar association (DABA).
Hundreds of lawyers boycotted work on Thursday and came out on the road shouting slogans. The lawyers claimed that the demand for implementation of the Advocate Protection Act is long pending. They pointed out that they had submitted a memorandum to the state government when Vasundhara Raje was the chief minister. Now, they have again raised the demand when the Congress has formed the government.
The lawyers claimed that on April 16, an advocate Kuldeep Rajawat, was beaten up by workers of a vehicle towing van, which was roped in by the traffic police to tow vehicles which were parked wrongly on the roads. According to the lawyers, Rajawat got hurt when the workers were towing vehicles carelessly. When Rajawat fell down, he protested but he was allegedly manhandled by the workers.
In another such incident, an advocate Anil Chaudhary was manhandled by supporters of a candidate contesting Lok Sabha elections, who came to file the nomination at district collectorate, where they allegedly manhandled Chaudhary over parking issue.
An FIR has already been registered against the accused involved in violence against the lawyers. Source The Times of India
